My Odd Assortment of Tools
I think that deep down all guys really want to have a tool shed of some sort. Whether in their garage or their own real tool shed they want to feel manly and use a bunch of tools to just build stuff. While that sounds overly simplistic, and it is in some way, I think that there is much more to that statement. I think that this philosophy is engrained from way back to our earliest times when we wanted to build shelter, hunt for food and protect our families.
Obviously we have moved on a lot from then, however the concept is the same. We still ideally would want to do all of those things. Well some people have taken this concept to a new level.
It started really with a love of building. I really was not that into it as a child and in fact I did not know what a hammer was. I attempted to use it several times and the results were really scary actually. I never thought I would be someone who would be interested in things like a tig welder. In fact I did not even know how to pronounce that to be honest.
Much of that changed when I got married. Expenses tended to pile up and everyone looks to cut corners and save money where they can. The result was my attempt to start by building a new shelf. I figured why go to a commercial hardware store and pay the money when I could do it myself.
My first attempt at building a shelf was not as I had hoped. The shelf was a bit lopsided and held about five books. After that it collapsed. I got a bit down on myself after that but kept at it. After reading about shelf building and then looking at a couple of youtube videos the results were astounding. I had done the impossible. I had built a beautiful shelf that looked really great and really held anything I wanted to put on it.
This gave me the confidence to move on to other projects around the house. Soon I was laying tile in my basement bathroom and extending my deck. I had certainly come a very long way.
The story of the tig welder is actually a funny one. I had decided that some pipe running on my outside was too high and I decided to try some welding. I had not done anything like this before so I was quite nervous. Of course I took the necessary precautions. I invested in a welding mask, some rubber special gloves that can hold the heat of the torch and made to read some books on the tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. With that I felt comfortable enough to try my hand with a Tig Welder. The result if I must say myself was a pretty good job. I had it down well and the pipe did go the way I wanted it to. With all that I feel I can really accomplish any home improvement job. With the right attitude and right desire I feel you can too.
